Have you always wanted to be able to wield a sewing machine, or perhaps learn the basics around sewing the ever-useful box cushion, commonly used in upholstery for seats, benches, caravans or just for decoration? Our social Box (cushion) & Banter sewing course starts at the beginning, no sewing experience required. In this short four hour course, your seamstress will take you through the ins & outs of sewing machine and then on to creating your very own box cushion to take home. You’ll learn how to cut to a pattern with seam allowance, you’ll learn about different styles of box cushions, sewing in a zip & learn about different types of fabrics & cushion inserts suitable for box cushions. This course, located in our Moorabbin Upholstery Workshop is the perfect introduction to sewing in a social and relaxed atmosphere.

About your Seamstress
Your sewing teacher, and founder of Soul Stitches, Jennifer, will guide you through the process of creating your own box cushion from scratch. Jennifer has been honing her craft over many a year. She is a passionate educator, coming from a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion & having worked in various design rooms over her career. Jennifer has been passing on her skills to students for over a decade. Trust me, you’re in safe hands!
Choosing a Fabric
You will create at least the one box cushion in this course. We suggest that you cater to 1 meter of fabric. You will need to bring your own fabric for the course and will need to source it before the course starts. If you require guidance, Jen (the other one) will be more than happy to help guide you through the foray of fabric selection. Check out our fabric webpage which includes links to our favourite Fabric warehouses. From this page, you can also submit an order to request fabric samples to be posted to you and also place a fabric order. Samples must be organised four weeks prior to the class start date and orders placed two weeks prior. Please ensure you avoid leather, vinyl, velvet of piled fabrics for the course due to the additional complexities they will present for a beginner.

What you get
Included in the course fees are the use of a sewing machine, threads, cushion zips, as well as your dacron wrapped foam cushion insert. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits are also on offer.
