This pair of circa late 19C Napoleon III are sweet-as. The era from France was a mash-up of Louis & Empire styles with a major influence of chinoiserie patterns, hand painted of course, on an ornate blackened frame. As a pair, the patina on both is awesome with heaps of pattern still visible, and remnants of inlay mother-of-pearl; this is what shows the history of these pieces century and a half’s existence.
These pieces are ready for reupholstery, we intend to retain the horse-hair filling, leaving the paint as is & using only tacks to keep honest with the period; or alternately you can purchase virgin (as-is) and retain the current upholstery. You don’t see many of these in Australia.
